Spanish 2
This group currently has SOME VACANCIES.
If you are interested please email Harry Vosper (hvosp@aol.com).
Group Leader: Harry
Venue: upstairs in the Maritime Inn, Plymouth Barbican
Day: 1st & 2nd Mondays: 14:00
This is predominantly a conversational session for members who wish to improve their Spanish and are interested in Spain and Spanish culture in general (literature, art, food, wine etc). The group is at a level where even a basic understanding of Spanish will allow you to join in. We have a wide range of knowledge of Spain and Spanish in the group and we have a native Spanish speaker amongst us. £2 per session attended. It is not a taught group and we don´t follow a set course, so it is probably not suitable for complete beginners.
This group currently has some vacancies.
Improvers Spanish
This group currently has TWO VACANCIES.
If you are interested please email me (barryjcopeland2@yahoo.co.uk).
Group Leader: Barry
Venue: Plymouth Athenaeum Library
Meet: 1st + 3rd Tuesday: 2.00pm – 3.30pm
This group has now been redesigned a bit and there is now quite a diverse range of knowledge and ability within the group. When we commenced in October 2021, it was as a Beginners Spanish group and most of the participants were complete newcomers to the language. However the Beginners course has now been completed and anyone with some previous knowledge who wants to brush up on their (perhaps rusty) Spanish is welcome to join us. A one-off session costs £3, whilst group members pay a £10 subscription at the start of each 4 session block. All money raised pays for the room hire.
Our sessions remain structured rather than purely conversational, but there is plenty of speaking in each session, together with some reading and listening with the odd bit of writing (mostly at home, as preparation work for the next session). My aim is to revise/increase vocabulary, cover a certain amount of grammar and improve pronunciation skills, in order to be understood and to understand others. There is also an increasing focus on learning about Spanish culture and history.
Whatever their level, everybody gets something out of it (hopefully).
I would hasten to add that I am not a qualified Spanish teacher, but I was a secondary school teacher for 40 years and am a qualified teacher of English as a Foreign Language who happens to speak reasonable Spanish, but I am no more than Intermediate level. If I don’t know something than I will say so.
This group has two vacancies at present.
